Why I am a Network Marketer and How to Become One!

There are many ways to succeed online as a business owner. There are also many business models to choose from. One such business model that many have found tremendous success with is called Network Marketing.

Network marketing, also known as Multi-Level Marketing, is a business model that rewards people based on the number of people that they recruit. As a network marketer you represent a company. You promote and sell their products and earn a commission on your sales. However, you also recruit other people to join the company. For each person you recruit you also earn a commission on the sales they make.

Network marketers sell anything from candles and jewelry to herbal supplements and cleaning products. It’s an industry that has a lot of controversy. However, it’s also an industry that can make a lot of money, IF, you work hard and take it seriously.

When I first heard about Network Marketing was when I was a child ( I remember Tupperware and my mom buying any plastic gadget that you can imagine!) but I had also heard about being a “Scam or a Pyramid thing” which kept me away from the opportunity of exploring MLM for a while.

It was through my husband that I started learning a more healthy approach about MLM but without looking it as a business opportunity until I started having the need of finding something valuable to do that would help me generate some extra income while staying at home with my kids who where 3 and 1 ½ years old at the time. It was through some friend’s Facebook post that I got interested in this company, products and business opportunity. I’m a 11 years experienced fitness instructor and I was looking for a company whose mission, values and products were aligned with mine. I studied the compensation plan and found that it had not structure (legs). I did not have to keep or maintain inventory and I will get paid every day!  The investment was minimal and there was not risk at all. I could get my investment back in less than 3 days. I really had nothing to lose so I joined!

It has been 3 years now since I became a network marketing professional and it has been an amazing and profitable journey. I have had good month and low months like in ANY other business. I have had to work hard on disciplining myself, learn some new kills, learn about the company and products and be a product of the products. I have had to deal with the fact that who you thought would support you and would jump in with you into the business would not (like close friends and family), rejections, friends that avoid you cause they don’t want to hear about your business opportunity (called SCAM behind your back!!) and so on. But all has been WORTHY it!

What I have loved the most is that sense of ownership. I control my time, I get to plan all my family activities around my business not vice-versa! I have the freedom to schedule trips, vacations, taking days off when needed, set up doctors appointments, play dates, etc without asking to a boss because I AM MY BOSS!! I’m saving a lot in daycares (my kids stay at home with me), gas (I don’t have to commute back and forth to any job place), tax saving (read The Financial Benefits of a Stay-at-Home Parent). Once I got to start building my organization, I started receiving what is called residual income, which is the income that continues to be generated after the initial effort has been expended. In other words, I’ve been on vacation with my family and I keep getting paid!!!

My other great reason to keep doing it, is the priceless feeling and reward of being able to help others to lose weight, improve their health and finance. Inspiring others to do the same with their friends and family. Being a messenger of health and wellness.

So, if this is something that you as a Stay-at-Home mom would like to explore, here are some steps that you need to take:

  • Step #1 Decide if You Have What It Takes to Succeed:  Network marketing is about educating and talking with people. If you don’t enjoy sales or talking to people, then it’s not the right business for you. However, if you enjoy engaging people and talking about their life and their problems (and how your products can solve their problems), then you’ve found a calling. You also want to be self-motivated. Network marketers are self-employed. There’s no boss hanging over your shoulder telling you to get to work. You have to tell yourself to get to work. You have to set your own goals and keep yourself accountable to achieve them.
  • Step #2 Find A Company That Appeals to You: Because you’re going to be a sales person, it is vitally important that you like the products you’re selling and that you believe in them. Sure you can sell things you don’t believe in, but it’s easier to be successful if you do. You’ll also want to make sure it is a company that has a good reputation both with customers and with sales people. The reason the industry has a bit of controversy is because a few bad apples get a lot of attention. There are many good and reputable network marketing companies.
  • Step #3 Find a Mentor: A mentor will help you skip all the beginner mistakes everyone else makes. You’ll be able to launch your career and your income much faster. A mentor may also have some insider secrets and tips that you can use right away. Finally, a mentor is good to help you get and stay motivated. If you don’t want to find a mentor, consider creating a team of other network marketers to meet and motivate each other on a regular basis.
You also need to think about theses four rules (From the book GO PRO by Erick Worre) once you decide Network Marketing is for you:
  • Rule 1 – Detach yourself from the outcome: Focus on Education and Understanding to educate other about your company and products instead of convince them to join.
  • Rule 2 – Be Yourself: Focus on being your best self.
  • Rule 3 – Bring some Passion: Be enthusiastic, positive, smiley, inspiring
  • Rule 4 – Have a Strong Posture: Be bold, be strong, believe
Network marketing is a great business model for the self-motivated professional. You are able to make your own hours, work with a company you love and there’s no income ceiling or cap that you have to deal with. The sky is the limit. And that’s why so many people love network marketing.

Why my Products Don’t Work When Trying to Lose Weight or improving your overall health

On our way to church on Christmas eve, I decided to check my email from my cell phone. I received several messages. Most of them coming from blogs that I’m subscribed with messages about the Holidays. Only one email caught my eye and my desire to open it immediately. It came from a friend who is a Zumba® student of mine and a client. Her name is Cathy. The subject of the email read: “Thank You”. I opened the email and my heart was full of joy. Only one word came out of my mouth: “WOW!” My husband who was driving asked: “What’s wrong?”. With tears in my eyes and my voice a little shaken I read the email to him and another “WOW!” resonated but this time it came from my husband and then he asked: “What do you think?”

Throughout this year, many people have given me the opportunity to work with them to help them improve their lives and I’m deeply grateful for that. My motivation and deepest desire is that each of them achieve that change, achieve results or at least stay on track with the new life style adopted. I’m dedicated to them. I’m in constant communication to make sure everything goes well. I provide the necessary information. And most importantly they have my unconditional support.

Unfortunately, not everyone experiences the change they are looking for or they don’t want it bad enough to make the necessary sacrifices. Not everyone wants me checking on them asking how they’re doing, how they’re feeling and how their meal plan is going. Some of them ignore my messages. And some of them the only time they respond is to tell me that the products didn’t work or the products are no different than any other products in the market. Of course, there are out of control circumstances that can affect the “getting healthier/adopting a new life style” process and I totally get it but that is not what I’m referring to, I’m referring about things that we have control over.

I want to clarify that Cathy’s success story is the result of her dedication and commitment. She didn’t allow excuses to hinder her process of getting the results she wanted. During the time she used the Xyngular products she traveled around the country and even internationally. She even took the products with her in some of her trips. She celebrated birthdays, attended dinner invitations, etc and still she was able to lose weight and control her cholesterol level. I only provided her with the tools she needed and my unconditional and sincere support.

So, what did I think about when I read her email?

1) That I love the area of health and wellness. Nothing more rewarding to know that I’m making a difference in people’s well beings, in their lives. For the last 6 months I have been praying to God for confirmation and I feel that HE answered my prayers.

2) That it is totally out of my control how some people excuse their weaknesses and are not willing to make the necessary sacrifices to get the desired results.

3) That my focus and motivation should be channeled towards those that really want a change in their lives.

In health and wellness, there is a saying: “facts tell but stories sell” and some people could think that the most important thing for me is that my clients get the results they want so I can sell more and nothing could be further from reality. Obviously, this is my business but financial rewarding is not my main motivation. Much less in this highly sensitive area such as Health and Wellness. My biggest motivation, what I look for and want to hear from my clients is what my friend Cathy summarized in her email.

Xyngular products or any other weight loss product for that matter will not work when trying to lose weight if when everything is said and done you are not fully honest with yourself and blame the products, other people, circumstances and anything else but yourself. Your actions WILL MAKE a difference. NOT your INTENTIONS.

I end this blog post with Cathy’s Thank You email:

Hey there!!  I wanted to say THANK YOU for all you have done for me!  My 2013 was a great year and a lot of it was due to you!  

1.  I have you for a wonderful Zumba® instructor and best of all, a good friend!  
2.  I have a whole new Zumba® family in my life that gives me inspiration!
3.  I have 15 less pounds on my body (and I’m keeping them off!).
4.  My overall health is great–cholesterol controlled!!
5.  I can Zumba for an hour and then say “Is that it?  Can we go for another 1/2 hour?”
6.  Feeling good about myself…and being better at 40 than I ever was in my 30s is definitely something to be happy about!

And because of this success story and many more that I haven’t even shared, I begin this year with a heart full of GRATITUDE to those who gave me the opportunity to make a difference in their lives both in the health and financial area.

From Failure to Success!!!

FailuretoSuccessIn 2007, while waiting for the birth of my first child, I thought the most (with concern and denial) about having to return to work to my 8-5 job as a Technology Coordinator, while leaving my daughter at daycare and missing out the best moments of her first year of life. My friends warned me to start looking and visit daycares, giving me the best tips and recommendations for when the time comes to visit and select the one place where my daughter would be taken care of during the first months of her life. Time went by, my daughter was born, and I did not follow any of the advice I was given by my friends and family. My time to return to work was here and my stomach shrunk thinking about leaving her with someone else. I visited two or three places that someone recommended. Of course no one like myself! I tried to negotiate with my boss returning to work only part time, which he agreed but for one month only. After that period of time, I had to return to my full time job with new assignments and more responsibilities.

A month later, and after thinking and discussing it with my husband, I decided to quit my job. Thank God, I was an independent trainer for a well-known Dance Fitness program and I could generate additional income that could easily replace my regular full time job earnings. My husband also had a steady job so through it we would still receive medical benefits, which I was scared to lose the most. I put in my resignation and I was the happiest woman in the world knowing that I would have all the time in the world to spend with my baby girl, enjoying her, playing with her, and celebrating every progress of her growth.

A month after I resigned, my plan B fell short. In other words, I stopped generating money, so we became a one income family, with a mortgage on our shoulders, two car payments and the cost associated with having a baby at home! From then on, my nightmare began; we began to reduce expenses, debts began to accumulate, we were about to lose our home. I fell into a state of terrible depression. I felt I was not worth anything. Nothing motivated me. I did not know what to do!!! My marriage began to fall apart, I felt lost. That lasted for about two years. It was awful.

In 2009, God surprised us with another baby. I was terrified. Another baby and we were still dealing with a difficult financial situation. I felt somewhat guilty of not being able to help with household expenses. I knew I had to do something. I did not know exactly what but one thing was very clear: I did not want to return to an 8-5 job. I wanted to work for myself, manage my own time. In other words, I wanted to run my own business. The question now was: What type of business? I did not have much money to invest. In fact, I had nothing and I would not use the family money for that. A little pride, a little fear and what if it does not work? I began to explore options, at that time my husband was very involved with Network Marketing. I kind of understood the concept but I was not thrilled about it. Nevertheless, I explored some options that led me to join a direct sales company that sold purses. The mission of the company was attractive to me, the products were great but after while I realized that I did not identify myself with the products. I wanted something that would add more value to the lives of people, something that really offered a life changing opportunity… which was something that I pursuing for myself.

One day, I got a Facebook message from someone I did not know. A girl original from the same country as I and fellow dance fitness instructor. We connected immediately and we became Facebook friends. Over the days, I started reading her posts about how she was helping people change their lives by improving their overall health, increasing their energy and losing weight. I felt fascinated by her optimistic and uplifting messages and by seeing the results others were getting from the health and wellness system she offered.

I asked her about the program and company and asked her to be very honest with me. I did not want her to tell me that, in only three months, I would become a millionaire! I asked her to tell me the truth about what she was doing and how much she was really making. I was looking into making at least $1000 a month.

I reviewed all the information she sent me. I researched the company, products, and testimonials for about a month. It was not until I studied the Compensation Plan, which was very simple, that I decided to go ahead and joined. It was exactly what I was looking for.

It’s been almost two years since then and I feel really happy and grateful for all the positive changes that decision has brought into my life. I have joined a company that not only gives me the opportunity to help others but it has allowed me to meet and exceed the goals I have set for myself. I have grown so much as a person, as a human being and as a business entrepreneur while taking good care of my family. My husband, who I used as a guinea pig, went from being an overweight sedentary man to being active and energetic. He completed his first marathon a year after loosing weight using these wonderful products. My children not only remain healthy most of the year but will also enjoy healthier parents with more energy now. Our eating habits improved and we are more conscious about caring for our health.

I have managed to generate enough money to provide for my family and more. But the most important part of this is the chance I have had to share with others, like you, this opportunity of making a difference in others lives! That has been my greatest gratification. It has not been easy but it has been simple. We the support of my husband, family and friends I’ve succeeded. This is something that you can achieve too and I’m here to help you! Changing lives, one at a time!

Mompreneurs: How to Balance Your Working and Family TimeAs a mompreneur you have one of the most difficult jobs on the planet. You have decided to run your own business and be a parent. It doesn’t get any more wonderful, and challenging, than that! All of those responsibilities means that finding a balance is essential. A balanced life helps you continue to have it all and gives you the time you need to enjoy the life you’ve designed. Here are some tips, strategies and ideas to balance your working and family time:

1.- Schedule time for everything: It may sound extreme. However, scheduling time to work and time to play really does help you find the balance that’s right for you. Scheduling your life forces you to look at your priorities and make sure you find time for them.

For example, you may decide that working from six am to noon every day works best for you. Then you have from noon until bedtime to focus on your mom responsibilities. Alternatively, you may decide that working two ten-hour days a week works best for you and then taking the other five days to focus on your mom responsibilities. There’s no right or wrong schedule here. A balanced life is defined by you.

2.- Prioritize: This is important for both your business and your personal life. There’s always more to do in every area of your life. Take the time to prioritize both. For example, for your business your priorities are likely your income-producing activities. If you’re a service professional, then the time you spend working with clients is a high priority. If you’re in affiliate or information marketing, then planning and creating content is what brings in the money. On the personal side, spending time with your partner each week is a priority – as is spending quality time with your children. However, cleaning the house may not be a high priority.

3.- Get help: Once you know where your priorities are you’ll most certainly notice that there are tasks and responsibilities that are not on that list. For example, the house cleaning or your bookkeeping. These are tasks that get pushed to the back of the list. These are also tasks that you can get help with. For example, you can outsource the housecleaning or bookkeeping to a professional. Make sure that when you outsource a task you fill the available time created with a high priority task. For example, if you outsource your bookkeeping perhaps that frees up three hours of your time each month. Make sure you use that time to work on income-producing activities. The goal is to earn more money than you’re spending on outsourcing.

4.– Improve Your Time Management Skills:

Take a look at the Time Management Matrix in the image above created by Stephen Covey, first described in his book First Things First.

As a working mother, in which quadrant do you spend most of your time? If we’re honest, it’s probably not in the Quadrant of Quality and Personal Leadership, More than likely, we’re spending most of our time:

  • Signing field trip forms at the last minute on the way out the door in the morning;
  • Stopping at the grocery store every day in an effort to find something for dinner;
  • Making last-minute trips to the store for ink cartridges so school research papers can be printed;
  • Taking unnecessary phone calls;
  • Staying late to prepare for tomorrow’s sales meeting;
  • Checking email too often throughout the day;
  • On the Internet;
  • On Facebook;

Now that you understand how you should be investing your time and where you might be wasting it, you can work on improving your time management skills.

How?

  • Make a list of all tasks, activities and priorities that fall into the Quadrant of Quality and Personal Leadership, those things important but not urgent. Include both work and personal priorities.
  • Set aside the first two hours of each workday and only focus on those important but not urgent activities. Close your door, stay focused and tell your co-workers you are not to be interrupted.
  • Set aside one hour per evening and only focus on personal activities that are important but not urgent. These might include exercising, playing with your children, paying bills ahead of schedule or simply relaxing or reconnecting with your spouse.

Once you’ve mastered the above schedule on a consistent basis, challenge yourself to increase the amount of time you spend both at work and at home on these important activities. You’ll find this extra time by continuing to identify and eliminate time wasters.

Soon, other people will look at you and ask, “How does she get so much done?

Finally, learn to recognize when your life feels out of balance. There’s no formula that can tell you. It’s up to you to know when things are askew. This is where regular planning sessions and quiet time alone can help. You can perform an honest analysis of your life and where it is going and make any changes necessary. This is your life.”
